Directive 200/14/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 8 May 2000 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to the noise emissions in the environment by equipment for use outdoors.
This directive is intended to harmonize laws of the member states regarding permissible noise levels and on the collection of data on noise pollution. The directive applies to a wide range of commercial equipment: compaction machines, compressors, dozers, loaders, landfill compactors, lawnmowers, power generators, etc. but it does not include equipment that is primarily intended for the transport of goods or people by road, rail, highways or waterways for instance. The directive sets the maximum permissible noise levels that can be emitted by the equipment in article 12 and by reference to two harmonized directives: EN ISO 3744 and EN ISO 3746. Annex III sets forth specific additional requirements for particular types of equipment. Companies manufacturing equipment covered by the Noise Directive must comply with the CE mark requirements in order to document compliance with the provision of the directive. Manufacturers of equipment listed in Article 13 only have to comply with the noise labeling requirements.
