Industrial Processing and Pollution Control (IPPC)

Council directive 96/61/EC of 24 September 1996 concerning integrated pollution prevention and control supports the implementation of the priorities laid out in the Sixth Environmental Action Program .

In effect, it sets the performance requirements for industrial processing and pollution control that is used in a wide range of industrial facilities in Europe. Permits must be issued in accordance with the IPPC directive for all installations located in the EU. The permitting process is intended to ensure that installations covered by the IPPC are designed and operated to take all appropriate measures to prevent pollution through the application of the best available techniques. Annex III lists types of air and water pollutants that should be subject to emission limit values through permitting process (chlorine, fluorine, asbestos, etc…).
